MEMBERSHIP

Join in the promotion and activities of your business - the Angus breed - you'll enjoy it more, get more out of it and meet the greatest people in Virginia.

Any resident of Virginia or anyone with land or Angus cattle interests in Virginia, is eligible for membership. The dues are based in the type of operation maintained, purebred or commercial and on the number of head in the herd. An Associate Membership without voting privileges is available to out of state breeders. Such dues are payable annually.

Membership in the Virginia Angus Association entitles you to...

• Permanent Headquarters
Your Association is staffed with two full time employees at its own Headquarters Building. A phone call to (540) 337-3001 or an e-mail will provide you their assistance.

• Market Expansion
Your Association sponsors several auction sales throughout the State for its members. It also manages and assists with individual breeder auctions and provides private treaty sales opportunities. The Executive Director, Dan Wells, is available to advise on market planning and development. Selling your cattle to advantage is absolutely necessary.

• Angus Shows
As an aid to your promotion and merchandising efforts, the Virginia Breeder Show is held annually, as well as several show and sale combinations. The Angus Show at the Virginia State Fair, numerous County Fairs as well as Regional and National Shows are also available to display your production. Advice and counsel on both selection and preparation is available from your Association.

• Breed Promotion
To complete the promotion program your Executive Director, Dan Wells, attends steer shows, feeder calf sales, meetings and field days to spread the word about Angus advantages and encourage the founding of new herds. News releases, radio and newspaper advertising are all used to promote your breed.

• Youth Program
An important function is the sponsorship of an active program for our youth. About $2,000 is raised annually for members for premiums at the State Junior Show, State Fair, and County Shows. Assistance is also provided for their participation in National Shows, Events, and Showmanship contests.

• The Virginia Angus Handbook
Annually the Association distributes, free, a Handbook filled with up-to-date information concerning your herd operation written by successful fellow breeders, management tips and techniques, preparation for shows and sales, performance programs, selling, selection, health, and more!

• Free Subscription to the 'Angus Topics'
Your membership dues include a subscription to this monthly publication. This provides you a current report on State, National and International Angus news, show and sale activities, as well as National Advertising.
